St Albans 59 Tabard 6
This was Tabard’s first away game since the start of lock down back in March 2020 and was always going
to be a tough fixture with Tabard having lost five men to injury in the preceding home game against
Hitchin. This meant a reshuffle in positions for several players and despite being up against a much
heavier side, they gave a good account of themselves in the first half.
Tabard were made to work hard in defence but put the first points on the board when Harry Gough
slotted a penalty from 20m after 10 minutes. St Albans struck back with a short range try with the
conversion taking the score to 7-3 after 25 minutes.
Tabard picked up another penalty from 35 metres to narrow the score but almost immediately St Albans
were able to cross Tabard’s line off a well worked line out move. The referee blew for half time with the
scorer St Albans 14 - Tabard 6.
Sadly the game went away from Tabard in the second half. St Albans ran in their third try from the restart
and as the injuries started to pile up Tabard were unable to cope with their bigger opponents.
St Albans were able to stretch the Tabard defence and pick up another five tries before the referee
brought the game to a conclusion with the score St Albans 59 Tabard 6.
Tabard will look to regroup before their next game at Finchley on 16th October.
