Tabard 6 Finsbury Park 38

Tabard’s injury problems didn’t improve on Saturday when they lost five players, ending up with 13 on the pitch. Nevertheless, they managed a spirited performance that showed promise once the game settled down. Unfortunately the home side were caught napping and conceded an early try to the visitors but pulled the score back to 3-5 thanks to a well struck penalty from Jack Reilly. Finsbury Park were able to create an overlap down the right hand sided of the pitch that gifted them another try before some good play from Tabard forced a penalty allowing Reilly to put them back in touching distance at 6 - 10 after half an hour of play.

Tabard looked to build on their possession and made good ground but a turn over allowed the visitors to break out and score under the posts just before half time with the score 6 - 17.

Tabard started the half well forcing the visitors in to conceding an early penalty, the 40m distance in to the wind was just too much for Reilly and his attempt dropped just short. Reilly unfortunately had to leave the field, handing over kicking duties to harry Gough who was just wide with his first kick from the 22. The visitors were able to capitalise as the home side rearranged as the injuries mounted and pulled away with a further three tries. The moment of the day however came when ‘Cheese’ Stevens knifed through the visitors attempts at tackling him, with a lung bursting run from half way, only to be hauled down just short.

This exemplified the spirit and commitment shown by the whole 18 players and coaching team representing Tabard and we look forward to next week’s fixture away at Hendon.
