Welwyn 92 Tabard 0
This was always going to be a tough game for Tabard, as with resources limited, they were only able to take to the field with 14 men. All credit to the players and coaching staff that gave it their all but they were up against a useful Welwyn side that were able to take full advantage of their numerical superiority. Welwyn were able to get round the outside of Tabard’s defence and clocked up two early tries. They showed some deft handling through the midfield too which allowed them to pick up six tries in the first half hour. Tabard rallied and put the hosts under huge pressure for the last ten minutes of the half. They forced the home side to concede numerous penalties on the line but were just unable to take anything out of their efforts and the referee blew for half time with the score 38 - 0.
Welwyn started the second half with a try from the kick off as their No 7 ran the ball through Tabard’s defence and unfortunately this set the tone for the half. Tabard competed as best they could but the extra man and some good rugby resulted in Welwyn running away with the game. The Tabard side pulled together as best they could and if there was one individual who exemplified this it was George Gough, probably the smallest player on the pitch, but he tackled like his life depended on it and set a great example to the rest of the team. Tabard enjoy a well deserved break this weekend before they welcome local rivals Harrow to Cobden Hill on 27 November.
