Harrow RFC

Tabard 10 Harrow 19

Tabard put up their best show of the season and were so close to their first win in a match played in very difficult conditions that was heavily influenced by the strong wind that felt like it was blowing in straight from the Arctic.

Despite the conditions the local derby with Harrow was played to a high standard and in a good spirit. Tabard opened the scoring after debutant winger Smith linked with returning centre Liam Glynn before the ball went to Joe Calnan who rounded his man for Tabard’s first try after 15 minutes. Tabard enjoyed some good possession before back chat to the referee cost them field position and a well placed kick set up a Harrow line out deep in Tabard territory. The home side were unable to deal with the catch and drive and the conversion put the visitors ahead after 35 minutes. Tabard were unlucky that some good play led to an interception allowing Harrow to drive in to the Tabard 22. Harrow opted to take a scrum after Tabard infringed and this eventually led to their second try which was well converted just before half time.

Tabard started the half well with a penalty allowing them to kick to the corner but they were unable to secure the ball and Harrow cleared up field. A Tabard penalty allowed Harrow to kick to the corner where another catch a drive allowed Harrow in for their third try, making the score 5-19. Jack Reilly then set the tone for Tabard’s fight back, winning a penalty after his own tackle. He kicked for the corner where Tabard forced the visitors into conceding penalty after penalty. The ball found its way to Smith who made good ground down the wing and scored in the corner. Tabard refused to give in and put huge pressure on the visitors defence. The game finished when an attacking Tabard line out didn’t go to hand and the referee brought the game to a conclusion withe score Tabard 10 Harrow 19.
